Who Are Volunteers?

Adult leaders/volunteers in Scouting are individuals that are responsible for providing support, guidance, and supervision to youth members, leading and organizing activities, and helping ensure safety and fun. They are dedicated to using the Scouting program to teach, support, guide, supervise and support young people in their physical, mental, social, and spiritual development, so that they may grow into responsible citizens and play a constructive role in society. These adults are responsible for administering and supervising the Scouting program and providing training and guidance to youth leaders. Adult leaders/volunteers may take on the role of Venture Scout Leaders, Scout Leaders, Assistant Scoutmasters or Scout Masters, Cub Scout Leaders, Assistant Cub Scout Akela or Cub Scout Akela, Officers, or members of District or Council committees. They may also serve as liaisons between the Scouting organization and the community.

What is the role of Volunteers?

The role of adult leaders/volunteers in Scouting is multifaceted. They serve as mentors and role models for the youth they serve, providing guidance and direction in the form of goal setting, problem solving, decision making, and learning activities. They plan, organize, and lead activities and events, teaching the values and principles of Scouting, as well as advocating for the Scouting program and being a source of information and support. Furthermore, they help build relationships between the youth and their families, connecting them to their local Scouting organization and providing an example of how to live responsibly and with integrity.

Friends of Scouting

Friends of Scouting refer to individuals who, due to time constraints or other reasons, are unable to become official members of the Scouting organization. Examples include personnel from organizations such as the bodybuilders, doctors and other professionals who provide valuable external support. Although not official members, Friends of Scouting play a crucial role in supporting the success of the Scouting movement. The support provided by these donors is critical in funding and supporting essential aspects of Scouting, such as camping trips, outdoor activities, and training programs for adult volunteers. This ensures that Scouting remains a vital and impactful organization in communities across the country.

Once you have identified a Scout Group, you will need to fill out a adult application form and pay any required fees. This form will gather some basic information about yourself and your background.
